What to do next
Get care. If you can do the rest safely, do it soon. None of this is a deadline printed as a number of days. Some notices, including no-fault and any claim that involves a city, can be short. Call and ask.
- Write down the other driver, the plate, and the names of witnesses.
- Photograph the scene, the vehicles, and the bicycle, as they were.
- Keep the bicycle. Do not throw it away or have it repaired before anyone has looked at it.
- If police came, keep the report number.
- If you have GPS, a bike-computer file, or camera video from the ride, keep that too.
- If you were riding a rental bicycle, keep the rental record.
If a motor vehicle was involved
If a car, taxi, bus, or truck was involved, ask about no-fault for medical bills and lost pay. Do not give a recorded statement to an insurer before you have spoken to a lawyer.
Damage to the bicycle is a separate question from a bodily injury.
